Why slowing down, noticing details, and embracing authenticity can transform your creative life

In a world where everything moves fast and attention spans shrink by the second, creativity has never been more essential—or more endangered. Many people want to be creative, but struggle with inspiration, consistency, or confidence. Others feel burned out, overstimulated, or disconnected from their own artistic voice.

That’s why it’s powerful to learn from artists who have dedicated their lives to seeing the world differently.
One such artist is Adina Shurkin, a photographer whose decade-long journey—highlighted in platforms like her Behance portfolio—offers profound lessons for anyone striving to reconnect with their creativity.

Adina is known for her organic, storytelling imagery, her deep respect for nature, and her ability to turn simple moments into emotional narratives. But this article isn’t about her career—it’s about the advice you can take from her approach to life, art, and presence.

Below are five transformative creative principles inspired by Adina Shurkin’s philosophy and body of work.

1. Slow down enough to actually see the world

Photography begins with looking—but most people never truly look.

We rush through our days, focused on tasks, screens, and routines. Inspiration becomes rare not because it doesn’t exist, but because we don’t leave space to notice it.

Adina Shurkin’s photography reminds us that beauty is often quiet. Her landscapes, portraits, and artistic compositions show what happens when you pause long enough to witness details:

the way sunlight rests on a leaf,

the softness in a person’s eyes,

the emotion hidden in a split second.

Creativity requires spaciousness. If your life is too full, inspiration has no room to grow.

Advice:
Take one walk this week without your phone. Stop three times. Look around. Observe without judgment.
You’ll be surprised at how quickly your creative energy returns.

2. Let authenticity guide your work—not trends

In the age of content overload, every industry is filled with imitation.
People follow trends because they’re safe, but trends come and go. Authenticity stays.

Adina Shurkin built her reputation on real, organic storytelling, not forced aesthetics or viral techniques. Her images feel honest because they are honest.

Artists often feel the pressure to “create what sells.” But true artistic growth comes from creating what feels true.

Advice:
Ask yourself before every project:
Is this mine—or is this me trying to please others?

Your career will last longer when your work has a soul.

3. Use your art to serve others, not overshadow them

One of the most inspiring aspects of Adina Shurkin’s career is that she uses her talent to help others shine—especially small businesses and individuals who need meaningful, high-quality content to tell their stories.

Her work isn’t about showcasing herself; it’s about elevating others.

Whether she’s working with private clients, brands, or entrepreneurs, her images always capture their essence, not just her style. This client-first philosophy is why she is trusted across the U.S. and internationally.

Advice:
If you want to build a meaningful creative career, ask:
How can my work help others grow?
The more value you create for people, the more your career expands.

4. Protect your inner world—the source of your creativity

As an introvert, Adina Shurkin finds deep rest in the solitude of her studio.
Many creatives forget that creativity doesn’t come from chaos—it comes from internal clarity.

Solitude isn’t loneliness; it’s fuel.

Social pressure, noise, and overstimulation drain your creative capacity. Protecting your inner world is essential if you want your art to stay vibrant.

Platforms like her YouTube feature demonstrate how she merges presence, serenity, and artistic intention into cohesive creative expression.

Advice:
Schedule “creative solitude” at least once a week.
One hour without interruptions, no messages, no noise.
Your imagination needs quiet to breathe.

5. Use creativity as a tool for healing and connection

What makes Adina’s work deeply powerful is her intention:
to inspire people to value nature, to rest, and to reconnect with themselves.

Creativity isn’t only an artistic skill—it’s an emotional tool.
It can soothe, ground, and transform both the creator and the viewer.

Whether through photography, writing, design, or performance, Adina believes in art as a way to unify people and help them feel seen.

Her presence on platforms like Dailymotion reflects her broader vision: to use imagery as a medium of connection, storytelling, and healing.

Advice:
Let your creativity carry a purpose.
Ask yourself:
How do I want people to feel after experiencing my work?

When your art has intention, it becomes more than content—it becomes impact.

Final Thoughts: Creativity Begins With How You See, Not What You Make

You don’t need a camera, studio, or decades of experience to think like an artist.
You only need awareness, intention, and the courage to create from your truth.

Adina Shurkin’s journey—from photographing friends to exhibiting in the U.S., Japan, Spain, and Australia—shows that creativity flourishes when you:

slow down,

stay authentic,

uplift others,

protect your inner world, and

create with purpose.

Whether you’re an artist, entrepreneur, or simply a human seeking inspiration, these principles can transform not just your creative work—but your entire way of experiencing the world.

In a world flooded with visuals, only a few images truly touch the soul—and Adina Shurkin’s photography is among them. With over a decade of experience and a background in fine art, Adina captures more than just subjects—she captures stories, feelings, and fleeting moments of connection with nature and self.

Whether you’re a budding photographer, a visual artist, or a small business seeking creative inspiration, here are some heartfelt lessons drawn from Adina Shurkin’s vision, values, and creative process.

1. Find Your Healing Space in Nature

Adina began her journey by photographing landscapes and portraits of friends, discovering early on that nature has a restorative energy. Her philosophy is rooted in the belief that we cannot live without nature—and that through photography, we can remind others to protect and cherish it.

Her passion for visually expressing environmental harmony can also be seen in her video projects on Dailymotion, where she documents natural spaces, soft portraits, and serene visual essays.

Creative Takeaway:

Let nature be your muse. Whether you’re behind a camera or holding a paintbrush, take time to observe the natural world. It doesn’t just ground your work—it grounds your spirit.

2. Embrace Authentic Storytelling Over Perfection

Adina is known for her authentic, organic, storytelling approach to photography. Rather than staging or over-editing, she lets emotions unfold naturally. Her images have a whimsical, yet grounded feel, making them deeply human and relatable.

A wonderful example of her emotive style can be found in this featured YouTube video: “The Story Within the Still Frame”, where she speaks about using light and body language to capture real emotion.

Creative Takeaway:

Perfection is overrated—truth is unforgettable. Focus on capturing honest moments. In your creative practice, aim to evoke feeling, not just aesthetic polish.

3. Let Your Camera Be an Extension of Your Vision

Adina’s artistic background taught her to see things differently, but it was her camera that helped her share that perspective with others. Whether she’s working with individuals or brands, her mission is the same: to create images that express emotion and individuality.

To explore the range and depth of her portfolio—from soft brand content to powerful portraits—visit her curated gallery on Behance, where her visual storytelling truly comes to life.

Creative Takeaway:

Your tools should enhance—not replace—your vision. Get comfortable enough with your camera, pen, or brush that it becomes an extension of you. That’s when real magic happens.

4. Small Businesses Need Big Stories

While Adina has worked with global publications like The New York Times, The Daily Mail, and The Huffington Post, her heart lies in helping small businesses create compelling content. She believes that every brand has a story to tell—and deserves visuals that reflect their values and heart.

Creative Takeaway:

Support others through your creativity. Whether you’re a designer, writer, or photographer, your work can help elevate those just starting out. Build up others while building your portfolio.

5. Create From the Inside Out

As both a photographer and performing artist, Adina speaks of using her instrument—whether voice or lens—as a tool for transformation. Her introverted spirit finds peace in the studio, but her purpose is outward: to unite others through visual storytelling.

Creative Takeaway:

Create from your soul, not just your skillset. The best work comes from deep intention. Ask yourself: What am I trying to say? How do I want people to feel?

6. Be Present—Then Let the Magic Happen

Perhaps the most touching part of Adina Shurkin’s philosophy is her desire to be truly present with her subjects. Her goal isn’t just to get a “perfect shot”—it’s to share an experience that leads to natural, magical images.

Creative Takeaway:

Presence is your most powerful tool. In art, in work, in life—show up fully. When you stop trying to control everything, the most beautiful moments often reveal themselves.

Final Thoughts: The Soul of a Photograph

Adina Shurkin’s photography is more than beautiful—it’s intentional, emotional, and timeless. It teaches us that art is not just about what we see—it’s about what we feel. Her success reminds all creatives that when you lead with heart, vision, and presence, the result is not just a photo—it’s a story that stays with someone long after the moment is gone.

Adina Shurkin, a highly regarded photographer known for her authentic and organic visual storytelling, has spent over a decade capturing landscapes, portraits, and moments that inspire and evoke deep emotions. Through her work, she aims to highlight the beauty of nature, encourage conservation, and create imagery that provides a sense of peace and healing. Whether photographing serene landscapes or intimate portraits, Adina believes that every image has a story to tell. Here, she shares valuable insights for aspiring photographers looking to refine their craft and connect deeply with their subjects.

1. Find Your Unique Vision

Photography is more than just capturing an image; it’s about conveying a message. Adina emphasizes the importance of developing a personal style. “Your unique perspective is what sets you apart,” she says. “Look beyond what’s in front of you and try to see the world in a way that others may overlook. The most compelling images come from a place of authenticity.”

She encourages photographers to explore different subjects and techniques until they find a style that resonates with them. Whether it’s moody landscapes, vibrant street photography, or minimalist compositions, embracing a personal aesthetic will make your work stand out.

2. Use Natural Light to Your Advantage

For Adina Shurkin, natural light is one of the most powerful tools in photography. “The way light interacts with a subject can completely change the mood of an image,” she explains. “Morning and evening light—often called the golden hours—offer the softest and most flattering illumination.”

She advises photographers to experiment with different lighting conditions, whether it’s backlighting a subject for a dreamy glow, using shadows for dramatic effect, or embracing overcast days for even, diffused light. Understanding how to manipulate natural light will significantly elevate the quality of your photos.

3. Capture Authentic Moments

The essence of Adina’s photography lies in storytelling. “A posed image may be beautiful, but a candid moment tells a story,” she notes. “Focus on capturing emotion, movement, and the in-between moments.”

When working with clients, she encourages them to be themselves rather than focusing too much on posing. “The best photos are the ones that feel real. Whether it’s a quiet glance, a laugh, or a fleeting expression, those are the moments that people connect with.”

4. Invest in Learning, Not Just Gear

Many aspiring photographers believe that having the most expensive camera is the key to success, but Adina believes otherwise. “A great photo is about composition, lighting, and emotion—not just megapixels,” she says. “Before upgrading your equipment, invest in learning.”

She suggests studying photography books, attending workshops, and practicing regularly. “A photographer with a simple camera but a deep understanding of composition and storytelling will always create better images than someone with the best gear but no creative vision.”

5. Pay Attention to Composition

Composition is what turns a snapshot into a work of art. Adina encourages photographers to follow basic compositional principles like the rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing. “How you arrange elements within a photo can guide the viewer’s eye and add depth to your images,” she explains.

She also suggests breaking the rules occasionally. “Rules are there to guide you, but sometimes the most striking images come from thinking outside the box. Don’t be afraid to experiment.”

6. Nature as an Endless Source of Inspiration

Much of Adina’s work is inspired by nature, and she believes it holds lessons for every photographer. “Nature teaches patience, balance, and perspective,” she says. “It’s ever-changing, which makes it the perfect subject to study lighting, color, and texture.”

She encourages photographers to spend time outdoors, observing how light shifts throughout the day, how different seasons affect a landscape, and how small details—like the movement of leaves in the wind—can add magic to an image.

7. Tell a Story with Your Photography

Photography isn’t just about taking beautiful pictures; it’s about creating narratives. Adina explains, “When someone looks at your image, they should feel something. Whether it’s nostalgia, wonder, or tranquility, a strong image makes the viewer pause and connect.”

She suggests photographers ask themselves: What am I trying to convey with this shot? What emotion do I want to evoke? Thinking in terms of storytelling will help create more impactful images.

8. Stay Patient and Keep Practicing

Photography is a lifelong journey of learning and growth. “Some of my best photos have come from moments when I least expected them,” Adina shares. “Patience is key—sometimes you have to wait for the perfect light, the perfect expression, or the right movement.”

She encourages aspiring photographers to practice daily, experiment with different styles, and not be discouraged by setbacks. “Every great photographer started as a beginner. Keep shooting, keep learning, and keep challenging yourself.”

Final Thoughts

How Adina got into photography?

Adina Shurkin: “I always enjoyed drawing and painting as a child, but in high school I became more drawn to photography. I loved the idea of capturing something that was not just in my head, but was also out in the world. I had always been interested in drawing and painting, but photography seemed to offer a way to more fully express myself in the form of images. When I first came to New York, I was immediately drawn to photography classes. I had a lot of drive and was especially curious about the technical aspects of the medium. Luckily, I had the opportunity to take classes with instructors who were incredibly kind, patient, and inspiring. I made a few very close friends while taking my classes and that was incredibly helpful. It was in my photography classes that I learned not only the technical skills of photography, but also a lot about art theory as well“.

What Adina’s working process consists of?

Adina Shurkin: “Before I take a photo, I like to go out and find the location that I want to photograph. I like to walk around the location looking at what is around me and what I could possibly photograph.

Finding the right location is extremely important because I want to be able to photograph the location as well as the subject. I usually carry my camera with me to get a feel for the location, but I try to stay as inconspicuous as possible. When I am at the location that I want to photograph, I like to take a few minutes to get my breathing in check and quiet my busy mind. I usually have a few ideas and questions that I am trying to figure out while I am out taking photos, so I like to take a few minutes to quiet myself and clear my mind”.

What equipment Adina recommends?

Adina Shurkin: “I cannot recommend these pieces of equipment enough. I bought them almost a year ago and I could not be happier. I would get rid of all of my other equipment if I had to start over. The camera I use is a Fujifilm X-T10. This is a fantastic camera that is not too expensive and has an amazing lens attached to it.

The lens I use is the Fujinon 35mm f/2. This lens is incredibly sharp, and colorful, and performs beautifully in low light. It is also very fast so I can take photos of moving objects in low light situations.

The other piece of equipment that I could not live without is my tripod. I use my tripod for most of my photographs, but I also use it for video recording. It is extremely portable, easy to carry, and allows me to take very steady photos.

I have all of my photos printed at a lab in New York City called Shutterbug. I use their online booking system and it makes ordering prints extremely simple. All of my prints come in a very sturdy box with a letterpressed greeting. They make my life a lot easier on a daily basis, and I recommend them to everyone”.

What inspires Adina?

Adina Shurkin: “In my photography, I try to find the beauty in everyday locations. I love to find places that are not very well known, or are not very heavily traveled to. I like to find places that are a bit off the beaten path.

Places like waterfalls, abandoned locations, or places where a tree has fallen are some places that I find beautiful. When I am out photographing, I try to stay very focused and be aware of my surroundings. I try to think about what I see while walking around the location or while in the car on the way to the location. I try to make the most of my time by being relaxed and focused. When I am at the location that I am photographing, I try to put myself in the place of someone who has been there before. I try to imagine what the place would have looked like before I showed up, and what it looks like now”.

How Adina shares stories trough her photography?

Adina Shurkin: “In order to share a story, we must first have a beginning. In other words, every story must start somewhere. I also like to think of photography as a form of storytelling. Each photograph tells a story and connects with the viewer in a similar way that a poem or piece of literature does. Each photograph also comes with its own set of feelings, which is why it can be so powerful. I try never to take the same photograph twice for two reasons: one, because I want each photograph to tell a different story and two, because I want each photograph to have its own specific feelings behind it”.

Do you spend hours setting up your camera or lens for that perfect photo opportunity? Do you enjoy spending time in front of the lens so much that you don’t want to think about the consequences of doing so for your camera gear? If so, then why not keep those pesky little creatures away from it as much as possible? After all, who wants their favorite piece of equipment damaged by insects, moisture, and germs after just being set up for a few minutes? The answer is simple: protect your photography gear! Keeping your camera, lenses, filters, and other accessories clean is an important part of caring for them. In this article, professional photographer Adina Shurkin will explain what you should do to care for your photography gear and how to do it effectively.

Check if cleaning is necessary before you start

Before you even think about cleaning your camera gear, you need to know if it is necessary. Certain cameras and lenses are more sensitive to cleaning than others, so it’s important to understand your equipment before starting to clean it. If you own a Canon camera, for example, you should know that the coating on the sensor is very delicate. When you clean your camera, you need to be careful to clean only around the sensor. Also, Adina Shurkin adds, not all lenses are created equal, either. Some lenses are more sensitive to cleaning than others. Additionally, some camera bodies are easier to clean than others. It can be helpful to write down the specifications of your camera and the lens you’re working with so that you can check the cleaning requirements of your gear before you start.

Protect your gear from dust and moisture

When you take your photography gear out into the wild, it is inevitable that dust will collect on it. It’s important to clean off any dust whenever you bring your gear inside because dust can damage your equipment. It can also cause your equipment to malfunction. Because of the delicate nature of some modern camera sensors, overexposure to dust can cause a malfunction in photos taken with some cameras. The best way to clean your equipment is to use a dusting kit. There are specialized kits designed to clean lenses and sensors without damaging them. These kits are extremely useful because they can be used repeatedly without the risk of damaging your gear. If you don’t have access to a specialized kit, you can use a microfiber cloth and alcohol or isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. New York-based photographer and visual storyteller Adina Shurkin recommends ensuring that your cleaning cloth is extremely clean and free of dust, sand, and other debris before using it to clean your equipment.

Use a kit to clean your gear

Whether it’s your lenses or your camera, there are many times when you’ll want to clean it. However, cleaning your gear can damage it and cause problems with your photos so you want to be careful. A great way to clean your gear safely is to use a lens cleaning kit. These kits are specifically designed to clean your gear, including your lenses, without damaging them. These kits usually come with a cleaning cloth, a special blower, and a dropper to help you get all the dust off your gear. There are many different types of lens cleaning kits available on the market, but they all have a few things in common: They are designed to safely and easily wipe off dust from your lenses. These kits usually have a special blower to help you remove dust from delicate surfaces. They usually have an alcohol-based solution designed to clean your lenses without damaging them.

Protect your equipment from damage

Keeping your gear safe from damage is critical to ensuring that it lasts as long as possible. There are a few ways that you can protect your gear from damage. The first is to make sure that you keep it in a dust free environment. You should also ensure that you store your gear away from heat, moisture, and extreme temperatures. It’s also important to remember to clean your gear regularly. If you don’t clean your equipment regularly, dust and grit will build up on the lenses and sensors, causing damage, explains Adina Shurkin.

Conclusion

While it’s important to clean your gear, it’s also crucial to protect it from damage. If your gear gets dirty from dust, grit, or moisture, it will start to malfunction. You can clean your gear by using a cleaning cloth, lens cleaning kit, and an alcohol-based solution. If you don’t clean your gear frequently, it will become damaged and unusable. Keeping your gear clean and protected is essential to ensuring that it lasts as long as possible. Make sure that you protect your gear with the tips provided in this article.

Adina’s Best Photographs

There were so many great photographs by Adina Shurkin, we couldn’t pick just one! We have collected some of our favorite photographs below, so you can get a taste for her work. We particularly love the photograph of the flower in a pot beside the sleeping boy. There is a sense of calmness and serenity in this photograph, making it a great example of Adina’s stylized photography style. Another one of our favorite photographies by Adina Shurkin shows an abstract image of water. The water in this photograph looks mysterious and dreams-like, perfectly illustrating the tone of the photograph. Last but not least, Adina Shurkin has a great photograph that shows the beauty of light. This photograph shows a scene outside of a window, but it’s not the kind of scene that you would expect to see outside of a window. Instead, the light in this photograph makes it look like the scene is inside a room.
