Play with Light and Shadow

Lighting is a crucial aspect of photography, and Adina Shurkin is a master of utilizing it to her advantage. You can add creativity to your photography by playing with light and shadow. Try shooting during the golden hour, the time just after sunrise or before sunset, to add a warm and beautiful glow to your photos. Alternatively, you can also try shooting during the blue hour, which is the time just before sunrise or after sunset, to capture moody and atmospheric shots.

Incorporate Props and Accessories

Try incorporating different props such as flowers, hats, books, or even household items to your shots. By doing so, you can add interest and uniqueness to your photos, making them stand out.

Look for Patterns and Textures

Patterns and textures can add depth and interest to your shots, making them more visually appealing. Adina Shurkin is an expert in finding patterns and textures in her shots. Try looking for patterns in nature such as tree bark, leaves, or even rocks. Alternatively, you can also try shooting textures such as a brick wall, rusted metal, or even a wooden fence.

Experiment with Post-Processing

Post-processing is an essential aspect of photography, and Adina Shurkin is a master of editing her photos to add a unique touch. Experiment with different editing techniques such as adjusting the brightness and contrast, adding filters, or even changing the colors of your shots.

How Adina got into photography?

Adina Shurkin: “I always enjoyed drawing and painting as a child, but in high school I became more drawn to photography. I loved the idea of capturing something that was not just in my head, but was also out in the world. I had always been interested in drawing and painting, but photography seemed to offer a way to more fully express myself in the form of images. When I first came to New York, I was immediately drawn to photography classes. I had a lot of drive and was especially curious about the technical aspects of the medium. Luckily, I had the opportunity to take classes with instructors who were incredibly kind, patient, and inspiring. I made a few very close friends while taking my classes and that was incredibly helpful. It was in my photography classes that I learned not only the technical skills of photography, but also a lot about art theory as well“.

What Adina’s working process consists of?

Adina Shurkin: “Before I take a photo, I like to go out and find the location that I want to photograph. I like to walk around the location looking at what is around me and what I could possibly photograph.

Finding the right location is extremely important because I want to be able to photograph the location as well as the subject. I usually carry my camera with me to get a feel for the location, but I try to stay as inconspicuous as possible. When I am at the location that I want to photograph, I like to take a few minutes to get my breathing in check and quiet my busy mind. I usually have a few ideas and questions that I am trying to figure out while I am out taking photos, so I like to take a few minutes to quiet myself and clear my mind”.

What equipment Adina recommends?

Adina Shurkin: “I cannot recommend these pieces of equipment enough. I bought them almost a year ago and I could not be happier. I would get rid of all of my other equipment if I had to start over. The camera I use is a Fujifilm X-T10. This is a fantastic camera that is not too expensive and has an amazing lens attached to it.

The lens I use is the Fujinon 35mm f/2. This lens is incredibly sharp, and colorful, and performs beautifully in low light. It is also very fast so I can take photos of moving objects in low light situations.

The other piece of equipment that I could not live without is my tripod. I use my tripod for most of my photographs, but I also use it for video recording. It is extremely portable, easy to carry, and allows me to take very steady photos.

I have all of my photos printed at a lab in New York City called Shutterbug. I use their online booking system and it makes ordering prints extremely simple. All of my prints come in a very sturdy box with a letterpressed greeting. They make my life a lot easier on a daily basis, and I recommend them to everyone”.

What inspires Adina?

Adina Shurkin: “In my photography, I try to find the beauty in everyday locations. I love to find places that are not very well known, or are not very heavily traveled to. I like to find places that are a bit off the beaten path.

Places like waterfalls, abandoned locations, or places where a tree has fallen are some places that I find beautiful. When I am out photographing, I try to stay very focused and be aware of my surroundings. I try to think about what I see while walking around the location or while in the car on the way to the location. I try to make the most of my time by being relaxed and focused. When I am at the location that I am photographing, I try to put myself in the place of someone who has been there before. I try to imagine what the place would have looked like before I showed up, and what it looks like now”.

How Adina shares stories trough her photography?

Adina Shurkin: “In order to share a story, we must first have a beginning. In other words, every story must start somewhere. I also like to think of photography as a form of storytelling. Each photograph tells a story and connects with the viewer in a similar way that a poem or piece of literature does. Each photograph also comes with its own set of feelings, which is why it can be so powerful. I try never to take the same photograph twice for two reasons: one, because I want each photograph to tell a different story and two, because I want each photograph to have its own specific feelings behind it”.

Final Words

We hope Adina Shurkin’s photographs inspire you to fall in love with the natural world all over again, as well as connect with your loved ones in a new and deeper way. You can see more of Adina’s photography on her Behance profile.

Do you spend hours setting up your camera or lens for that perfect photo opportunity? Do you enjoy spending time in front of the lens so much that you don’t want to think about the consequences of doing so for your camera gear? If so, then why not keep those pesky little creatures away from it as much as possible? After all, who wants their favorite piece of equipment damaged by insects, moisture, and germs after just being set up for a few minutes? The answer is simple: protect your photography gear! Keeping your camera, lenses, filters, and other accessories clean is an important part of caring for them. In this article, professional photographer Adina Shurkin will explain what you should do to care for your photography gear and how to do it effectively.

Check if cleaning is necessary before you start

Before you even think about cleaning your camera gear, you need to know if it is necessary. Certain cameras and lenses are more sensitive to cleaning than others, so it’s important to understand your equipment before starting to clean it. If you own a Canon camera, for example, you should know that the coating on the sensor is very delicate. When you clean your camera, you need to be careful to clean only around the sensor. Also, Adina Shurkin adds, not all lenses are created equal, either. Some lenses are more sensitive to cleaning than others. Additionally, some camera bodies are easier to clean than others. It can be helpful to write down the specifications of your camera and the lens you’re working with so that you can check the cleaning requirements of your gear before you start.

Protect your gear from dust and moisture

When you take your photography gear out into the wild, it is inevitable that dust will collect on it. It’s important to clean off any dust whenever you bring your gear inside because dust can damage your equipment. It can also cause your equipment to malfunction. Because of the delicate nature of some modern camera sensors, overexposure to dust can cause a malfunction in photos taken with some cameras. The best way to clean your equipment is to use a dusting kit. There are specialized kits designed to clean lenses and sensors without damaging them. These kits are extremely useful because they can be used repeatedly without the risk of damaging your gear. If you don’t have access to a specialized kit, you can use a microfiber cloth and alcohol or isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. New York-based photographer and visual storyteller Adina Shurkin recommends ensuring that your cleaning cloth is extremely clean and free of dust, sand, and other debris before using it to clean your equipment.

Use a kit to clean your gear

Whether it’s your lenses or your camera, there are many times when you’ll want to clean it. However, cleaning your gear can damage it and cause problems with your photos so you want to be careful. A great way to clean your gear safely is to use a lens cleaning kit. These kits are specifically designed to clean your gear, including your lenses, without damaging them. These kits usually come with a cleaning cloth, a special blower, and a dropper to help you get all the dust off your gear. There are many different types of lens cleaning kits available on the market, but they all have a few things in common: They are designed to safely and easily wipe off dust from your lenses. These kits usually have a special blower to help you remove dust from delicate surfaces. They usually have an alcohol-based solution designed to clean your lenses without damaging them.

Protect your equipment from damage

Keeping your gear safe from damage is critical to ensuring that it lasts as long as possible. There are a few ways that you can protect your gear from damage. The first is to make sure that you keep it in a dust free environment. You should also ensure that you store your gear away from heat, moisture, and extreme temperatures. It’s also important to remember to clean your gear regularly. If you don’t clean your equipment regularly, dust and grit will build up on the lenses and sensors, causing damage, explains Adina Shurkin.

Conclusion

While it’s important to clean your gear, it’s also crucial to protect it from damage. If your gear gets dirty from dust, grit, or moisture, it will start to malfunction. You can clean your gear by using a cleaning cloth, lens cleaning kit, and an alcohol-based solution. If you don’t clean your gear frequently, it will become damaged and unusable. Keeping your gear clean and protected is essential to ensuring that it lasts as long as possible. Make sure that you protect your gear with the tips provided in this article.

Research different fields of photography

When you’re trying to figure out your niche as a photographer, finding the right research materials is key. There’s no point just randomly Googling “niche as a photographer” and putting in your own keywords. What you’re looking for are different types of photography, the communities surrounding them, and their histories and stats. This will give you a better idea of the barriers and opportunities in different niches and the relative sizes of each niche. How do you find this information? Well, professional photographer Adina Shurkin recommends using a combination of Google, Reddit, Flickr, and other search engines.

Write down the ones that interest you

Once you’ve gathered all the information about different niches and the barriers/opportunities therein, you should start writing down all the niches that interest you. You should also write down any other topics you want to explore in photography. You can use a notebook or Evernote. Once you’ve written down all the topics that interest you, you can start to group them by what they have in common.

Start narrowing down your list

As you go through your list of different niches, it’s important that you start narrowing down your list. You want to take the time to think about each niche, and determine if it’s right for you. There are a few ways you can do this.

First, you can make a mental checklist of what you like and don’t like about each niche. Maybe you really like macro photography or you really like the idea of shooting food. Maybe you really dislike shooting landscapes or are less interested in the community surrounding fashion photography. Using this checklist to make a judgement about each niche will help you get a better idea of what you’re really interested in.

Another way to narrow down your list is to make a list of criteria for what a niche should have. For example, Adina Shurkin explains, you may want to have a specific focus in your work, or a specific audience. Maybe you’re interested in shooting portraits for babies or weddings. The list of criteria you may want to include in your niche is the list of things you want in your niche.

Assess what you currently shoot

If you’re doing some kind of photography intensive course or if you have a mentor in the industry, assess what you’re shooting right now. Make a list of all the types of photography you do and what scenes you’re actually shooting. Make sure you’re including everything from macro photography to food photography to travel. Why is this important? Because if you’re shooting a bunch of different types of photography, you’re actually covering a bunch of different barriers and opportunities. By assessing what you’re shooting, you can see if you’re missing out on any specific opportunities.

Decide where you want to be in 6 months

When you’ve narrowed down your list of niches, it’s also important to take a step back and decide where you want to be as a photographer in 6 months. This can help you make decisions about which niches you should try to avoid. Again, you can use a checklist of what you like and don’t like about each niche to help you decide. But it’s important that you don’t just make this decision based on what you like or don’t like. You want to base this on what you think is best for you as a photographer and artist.

Take Action!

Now that you have a list of niches, it’s time to start exploring each one. Go through each one and research the barriers and opportunities in it. Try shooting some photos in each one. Try to get a sense of what the community surrounding each one is like. Try to get a sense of the barriers and opportunities within each one. Once you’ve done enough research in a specific niche, you should start making some decisions about which ones you want to focus on the most. You can start building up a portfolio around a specific niche or a few different niches. You can also start to make connections and meet people in the community, try to create a name for yourself in a specific niche.

Conclusion

Finding your niche as a photographer can be a lifelong journey. You’ll always be on the lookout for new subjects and new styles to explore. But remember, there’s always going to be a niche out there that is thriving. You just have to find it. And the best way to find out which ones they are is to do some research and take some risks.
